Langtang Valley Gosainkunda Trek 15 days takes you on the scenic journey of Langtang valley, Gosainkunda trail and Helambu valley in the Langtang region.

This rugged yet beautiful trail rounds out the changing landscapes, starting from forested lowlands to alpine pastures at higher altitude region; passing by the most popular Langtang National Park, Langtang village, Kyanjin Gompa and the sacred Gosainkunda Lake in the abode of snow capped Himalayan peaks.

Langtang Valley Gosainkunda Trek begins with a scenic drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi. From there, the hike continues through rhododendron forests towards the rebuilt Langtang village. Up here the valley leads to Kyanjin Gompa, one of the most popular Buddhist monasteries in the Langtang region.

The surroundings are filled with alpine pasture lands for grazing yaks, and offers stunning mountain views. We’ll summit Cherko Ri, nearby Kyanjin Gompa for the commanding views of Langtang valley with surrounding peaks: Langtang Lirung, Yala Peak, Sisapangma, Langshisa, Langtang peak and many more.

The second section of the trail leads on to the holy lakes of Gosainkunda offering the picturesque views of Himalayan peaks on the way. This trail is one of the major pilgrimage sites of Hindus and Buddhists, especially during August on the occasion of celebrating Janai Purnima festival. As per the Hindu scriptures, this holy lake is an abode of Lord Shiva and created by him to cool off his throat after drinking poison from churning of the ocean.

The final stretch of the trail climbs up the Laurebina La Pass, walks past the villages of Helambu region, then onwards to Chisapani and comes close upon reaching Sundarijal. From here, it’s a short drive for an hour to reach Kathmandu.

The overall journey is full of adventures with rich natural and cultural heritage of Langtang region, this trek is a must to spend your perfect holidays in Nepal. Though it remains one of Nepal’s most popular trekking destinations, there has been a significant decrease in the number of visitors in the Langtang region after the post 2015 earthquake. Itinerary

Day 1
Arrival in Kathmandu

Welcome to Nepal! Our airport representative will meet you at the Tribhuvan International Airport and transfer to your hotel. In the evening, our trekking guides will give you a pre trek briefing at our office. Afterwards, you can spend your leisure time wandering around the tourist district- Thamel, alleys and streets of Kathmandu. There are shops, restaurants, cafes, bars and many more to explore around. Enjoy your first day in Kathmandu.

Day 2
Drive to Syabrubesi (1,460 m) Duration: 8-9 hours

Our trek commences from Syabrubesi towards Lama Hotel. En route, we’ll cross Bhote Koshi River over suspension bridge, then follow Langtang River and pass by lush rhododendron forests and terraced fields. The trail gently climbs up to Rimche, passes by quaint villages and forests where you can spot several wildlife and vegetation. Continuing on the trail alongside the river, we’ll arrive at the village of Lama Hotel for our overnight stay.

Day 3
Syabrubesi to Lama Hotel (2,480 m) Duration: 6-7 hours

Our trek commences from Syabrubesi towards Lama Hotel. En route, we’ll cross Bhote Koshi River over suspension bridge, then follow Langtang River and pass by lush rhododendron forests and terraced fields. The trail gently climbs up to Rimche, passes by quaint villages and forests where you can spot several wildlife and vegetation. Continuing on the trail alongside the river, we’ll arrive at the village of Lama Hotel for our overnight stay.

Day 4
Lama Hotel to Langtang village (3,450 m) Duration: 6 hours

Up early and start our morning with hot tea or coffee. After having breakfast, we follow the trail through evergreen forests, and then start ascending up the hill through Langtang valley. Enjoy the stunning views of Langtang Lirung on the way. You’ll behold the sights of prayer wheels, mani walls and chortens along the trail which showcases the mountain people’s culture and their faith on Tibetan Buddhism.

As we hike, we pass by Ghora Tabela followed by the villages of Thangshyap and Gompa before arriving at Langtang village. This beautiful village is a home to native Tamang people where you can find monastery, shops, bakery, school and lodges.

Day 5
Langtang village to Kyanjin Gompa (3,870 m) Duration: 6 hours

Leaving idyllic Langtang village, we continue to climb up gradually through yak pastures and then walk along the open valleys. En route we pass by the largest mani walls, several bridges over the tributary rivers to reach Kyanjin Gompa. Surrounded by the beautiful Langtang range, this traditional village offers the spectacular views of mountain landscapes.

This village is named after the most famed monastery in Langtang region, Kyanjin Gompa where we’ll attend the evening ritual performed by the Lamas. Enjoy the natural wilderness and cultural beauty of this place as you spend the night here.

Day 6
Hike to Chorka Ri (5,050 m) and back to Kyanjin Gompa

Today is set for exploration around Kyanjin Gompa. We hike to Chorka Ri for incredible views of the Himalayan giants and surrounding valleys. Enjoy the panoramic views of Langtang Lirung, Yala Peak, and Langtang range from this perfect vantage point.

Next, we return back to Kyanjin Gompa. Here, we’ll pay a visit to a yak cheese factory which is most popular for its production of delicious, organic cheese all over the county. Enjoy your evening exploring around Kyanjin Gompa with wonderful views.

Day 7
Kyanjin Gompa to Lama Hotel (2,480 m) Duration: 6-7 hours

From Kyanjin Gompa, we go back down towards Lama Hotel. The downhill trail path continues through the village of Langtang and Ghoratabela, and then enters the dense forest to reach our destination, Lama Hotel.

Day 8
Lama Hotel to Thulo Syabru (2,260 m) Duration: 6-7 hours

We hike out of Lama Hotel and descend to the bank of Langtang Khola. Afterwards, we’ll come across a waterfall, and then begin hiking along Langtang River. The trail rises gently through dense forests, crossing a suspension bridge to arrive at Thulo Syabru village. Enjoy the awesome views of surrounding Himalayan peaks in the evening.

Day 9
Thulo Syabru to Shin Gompa (3,330 m) Duration: 5 hours

Gaining altitude, we gradually ascend uphill to reach Shin Gompa. The route out there goes through dense forests where you can spot red pandas, monkeys and many more varieties of wildlife and vegetation. Once in the village of Dhimsa, we continue hiking for a few hours and then finally arrive at Shin Gompa.

This village is another popular place for yak cheese production in Rasuwa district. In the evening, you can go to see a cheese factory around the village or simply relax at the guesthouse.

Day 10
Shin Gompa to Gosainkunda (4,400 m) Duration: 5-6 hours

Heading off north east, we start climbing the hill and then pass by the villages of Cholang Peti towards Lauribinayak. From here, you’ll rejoice in the magnificent views of Ganesh Himal, Langtang Lirung, Manaslu range and neighbouring peaks.

Afterwards, the steep climb continues all the way to reach Gosainkunda. Along the way, the valley opens out, and there are alpine meadows and yak pastures for grazing yaks. We cross the ridge and finally treat with the spectacular views of the holy lakes of Gosainkunda in the distance. The views from the top are breathtaking with surrounding snow covered peaks.

Here, you’ll find about a dozen lakes in the Gosainkunda region which are considered holiest as they are created by Hindu deity Lord Shiva. Every year, a large number of both Hindus and Buddhist followers pay a visit to this pilgrimage site. Enjoy the peaceful atmosphere and serenity of lakes as you spend your night here in this beautiful place in the abode of the Himalayas.

Day 11
Gosaikunda to Ghopte (3,439 m) Duration: 6-7 hours

Another wonderful trekking day waits. Leaving Gosainkunda, we continue walking along the shores , past four small lakes to reach Laurebina Pass. The path out there is marked with prayer flags and chortens, and upon arriving at the top, you’ll enjoy the stunning views of surrounding mountains and valleys.

Afterwards, we make our descent through a wide valley that leads to High Camp and further steep down the trail towards Phedi. Soon after leaving Phedi, the trail rises gently up the hill to reach our destination, Ghopte.

Day 12
Ghopte to Kutumsang (2,450 m) Duration: 6-7 hours

The trail route is impressive as we leave Ghopte in the morning, climbing uphills through dense forests to reach Tharepati. From here, the path is downhill with spectacular views of Dorje Lakpa, Gangchempo and surrounding peaks. The walk through the ridge and forests takes us to Mangengoth, and further continuing for 3 hours on the trail leads to our lodge at Kutumsang. Enjoy your night stay at this beautiful village in Helambu valley surrounded by incredible Himalayan peaks.

Day 13
Kutumsang to Chisapani (2,110 m) Duration: 6-7 hours

Leaving Kutumsang village, you’ll hike down hill to Gul Bhanjyang. Continuing on this picturesque trail, the hike takes to Chipling and then begins ascending towards Chisapani. From here, you’ll enjoy the awesome views of Mt. Everest, Manaslu and other Himalayan giants. If the weather is good, the views of surrounding landscapes are captivating. Enjoy your meals and overnight stay at the lodge.

Day 14
Chisapani to Sundarijal and drive back to Kathmandu (1,400 m) Duration: 4-5 hours

The last leg on the journey. It’s an easy trekking day following the uphill climb to Borlang Bhanjyang, and then continues on the downhill path through forests to reach Sundarijal. On the way, we come across Mulkharka village often packed with Tamang settlements and beautiful surrounding views. Afterwards, a short hike for an hour leads to Sundarijal which is the origin point of Bagmati River. Also, you can see drinking water projects that supply drinking water to the entire Kathmandu valley.

Next, we drive for an hour to reach Kathmandu. Back in the hotel. Take shower and relax comfortably in the hotel room. If you’ve free time, you can wander around the streets of Thamel, and nearby Basantapur to explore the nightlife of Kathmandu.

Day 15
Final departure

Our 15 days long trip concludes today. Our airport representative will transfer to Tribhuvan International Airport for your flight home. Hope you have amazing moments while trekking with us in the Himalayas. Namaste, and have a safe journey ahead.
