Overview

Khopra Ridge Trek is a recently opened trekking route in the Annapurna region which is popular for its splendid mountain views and beautiful landscapes. This popular trekking route offers closer views of Annapurna I, Annapurna II, Annapurna III, Annapurna South, Machhapuchhre, Hiunchuli, Nilgiri, Lamjung Himal, and associated peaks.

Besides mountain views, you’ll explore traditional villages of the mid-hills, where you can enjoy warm hospitality from the locals and learn about the Nepalese people’s diverse culture and lifestyle.

Khopra Ridge Trek 14 days starts with a scenic drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara. Once you reach Pokhara, a short drive for an hour leads to Nayapul, the starting point of the trek. From here, you’ll commence your trek following the trail that rises gently up towards Ghandruk, a beautiful Gurung village in the Annapurna region. The close-up views of snow-capped Machhapuchhre and Hiuchuli seen from this rustic village are truly amazing and full of natural beauty.

Next, the hiking journey follows the lush forests filled with diverse flora and fauna, walking past the several mountain villages toward Khopra Ridge (Khopra Danda). Here, you’ll hike to sacred Kair Lake, which is truly magnificent due to its amazing location and beautiful surrounding landscapes.

After that, the hiking follows the returning journey towards the main trail of Ghorepani that comes to close upon reaching Nayapul. Finally, a short drive takes to Pokhara, and the last leg of the journey comprises a scenic drive from Pokhara to Kathmandu.

Itinerary

Day 1
Arrival in Kathmandu (1400 m)

Our airport representative will pick you up from Tribhuvan International Airport upon your arrival in Kathmandu and then take you back to the hotel. So have some rest and recover from jetlag. In the evening, you can visit our office in Thamel for a trek briefing where our guide will tell you about the trek.

Day 2
Guided Sightseeing around heritage sites of Kathmandu

Today we will visit four major UNESCO World heritage sites of the Kathmandu:

Pashupatinath Temple

Pashupatinath Temple is one of the holiest temples of Hindus in the world. Lying on the bank of the holy Bagmati River, the pagoda-style temple is surrounded with temples devoted to many Hindu gods and goddesses, and many Shiva lingam inside the temple complex.

Boudhanath Stupa

Boudhanath Stupa is one of the major sites of Buddhism in the world. Built-in the 5th century, you’ll see the Buddhist pilgrims and visitors circumambulating the prayer wheels around the stupa complex.

Kathmandu Durbar Square

Next, we pay a visit to Kathmandu Durbar Square. Here, you can enjoy the sights of several monuments, temples, and royal palaces, which represent the stunning architectural work of medieval Nepal.

Swayambhunath Stupa

Swayambhunath Stupa is another major heritage site of Kathmandu that signifies the holiest place for Buddhists and Hindus. Also known as Monkey Temple, it’s an epitome of religious harmony from where you can spot the scenic view of Kathmandu valley.

Day 3
Drive to Pokhara

Up early in the morning, and get ready for driving to Pokhara. You’ll enjoy the beautiful sceneries of Trishuli River and Marsyangdi River, along with hills and mountain views, as you drive along the Kathmandu-Pokhara highway. Once in Pokhara, you’ll check into the hotel. In the evening, you can stroll around the Lake Side, enjoying the superb views of Fewa Lake and surrounding hills and mountains.

Day 4
Drive to Nayapul and Trek to Ghandruk (1,940 m)

In the morning, we drive to Nayapul for an hour from where our trek started. Along the way, you’ll walk through terraced fields, passing by the tropical villages of Chimrung, Syauli Bazaar, Kimche, and Chane. From there, a short hike takes us to our destination Ghandruk for an overnight stay. Enjoy the magnificent views of Annapurna South, Annapurna I, Gangapurna, Hiunchuli, and Macchapucchre from this beautiful village. Get acquainted with the native Gurungs community and enjoy their local cuisines.

Day 5
Trek to Tadapani (2,590 m )

An easy trekking day in the Annapurna foothills. Leaving beautiful Ghandruk village, you’ll trek through lush forests filled with rhododendrons and oaks. En route, you’ll enjoy the scenic views of birds, animals, and waterfalls. Once in Tadapani, you can enjoy the unobstructed views of Annapurna II, Annapurna III, Annapurna IV, and Lamjung Himal.

Day 6
Trek to Bayerka Kharka (3,420 m)

Starting a morning with a gentle hike, the trail continues through lush forests. In the springtime, you’ll behold the sights of rhododendron flowers blooming in various colors. On the way, you’ll come across pasturelands used for grazing cattles by the locals and walking past the ridge before arriving at Deurali. From here, a short hike leads to Bayeli Kharka, from where you can spot the incredible views of Mt. Dhaulagiri.

Day 7
Trek to Upper Chistibung (2,975 m)

Leaving Bayerka Kharka, you’ll continue hiking on the trail along the grassy slope and then passing by grazing lands on the hillsides. You can behold the sights of yaks herder’s settlement and yaks grazing on the pasturelands. Continuing on the trail for four hours takes us to the small hamlet of Upper Chistibung, where we spend a night there.

Day 8
Trek to Khopra Ridge (3,660 m)

A short trekking day on the Annapurna hills. The trail rises gently along the ridge, walking past the alpine grasslands. En route, you can see several birds and animals such as Danphe, Monal, Himalayan Tahr, etc., along with beautiful mountain views of Annapurna South. Once you arrive at Khopra ridge, the mountain views get more precise. From here, you can revel in the breathtaking views of Annapurna I, Annapurna South, Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri, Tukuche Peak, Dhampus Peak, and surrounding peaks.

Day 9
Visit Kaire Lake from Khopra Ridge

Today, we pay a visit to Kaire Lake. It’s a challenging yet beautiful hike full of splendid mountain views and a tranquil lake. Continuing on the trail for several hours takes us to Kaire Lake, where we can behold the sights of Hindu and Buddhist shrines. This sacred lake is a pilgrimage site of Hindus and Buddhist devotees from where you can enjoy the magnificent views of snow-capped Himalayan peaks. Next, we return back to Khopra Ridge for our overnight stay.

Day 10
Trek to Swanta Village (2,200 m)

From Khopra ridge, you’ll continue hiking on the trail to arrive at Swanta village. Walking past the terraced fields and quaint villages, you’ll enjoy hiking on this beautiful trail nestled in the Himalayas. The views of Mt. Dhaulagiri seen on the route are truly rewarding. Once at Swanta village, you can stroll around this beautiful village, and you may visit the cheese factory to taste organic Himalayan cheese. Enjoy your night stay at Swanta village.

Day 11
Trek to Ulleri (2,050 m)

Another beautiful trekking day in the Annapurna region. Leaving Swanta village, you’ll descend towards the river, cross a swinging bridge and continue ascending towards Chitre. From here, you’ll join the main trail to Ghorepani, and continuing on the Ghorepani trail; you’ll descend along the native forests to arrive at Ulleri.

Day 12
Trek to Nayapul and Drive to Pokhara

Today is the final leg of the journey on the trail. Leaving Ulleri, a short hike takes us to Nayapul, where we initially started our trek. Once at Nayapul, we drive back to Pokhara, enjoying the scenic views of the hills and mountains on the way. Next, you’ll check into the hotel and take a rest. In the evening, you can stroll around the Lakeside area, enjoying the splendid views of Fewa lake and surrounding landscapes.

Day 13
Drive to Kathmandu

Today, we drive back to Kathmandu from Pokhara. You’ll catch a glimpse of villages and cities along the highway and the beautiful scenery of ever-changing landscapes along the journey. Once you reach Kathmandu, you can check into the hotel and get yourself ready for farewell dinner in the evening. Celebrate your trekking accomplishments with teammates and enjoy your last day in Kathmandu.

Day 14
Final departure

The Khopra Ridge Trek 14 days concludes today. Our airport representative will drop you at Tribhuvan International Airport for your final departure. We hope you enjoy hiking with us. Namaste and have a safe journey.
