Overview

Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek 9 days takes you in the heart of foothills of the Annapurna region where you are rewarded by views of snow capped Himalayan peaks, some of the highest mountains (8000 m+) in the world. A week long walk within easy reach of Pokhara, you’ll discover the best sunrise views over the Annapurna ranges and Dhaulagiri ranges from Poon Hill.

Starting in the Nayapul at north of Pokhara, you’ll set out on the scenic trail along the quaint villages, native forests and riverside before making your way up to Poon Hill at an elevation (3,200 m), overlooking the mountains. This hike offers some pretty spectacular views of Annapurna range, Dhaulagiri, Machhapuchhre, Nilgiri, Lamjung and many more peaks. Besides mountains, you will experience Nepal mountain culture and local dishes during your comfortable stay at teahouses. There are museums and beautifully decorated houses that showcase the unique culture and tradition of natives living in this region.

Likewise, the trail is great for watching diverse wildlife and vegetation, and there are plenty of seated viewpoints (chautaras) to take rest and indulge in the beautiful surrounding views. On the way back, you continue your hike to Nayapul passing green terraced hillsides before driving back to Pokhara where you can relax in it’s tranquil atmosphere at the shore of Fewa lake.

Itinerary

Day 1
Arrival at Kathmandu (1,400 m)

Our airport representative welcomes you at Tribhuvan International Airport. Catch a first glimpse of Kathmandu city as you are transferred to the hotel. You can take a rest to recover from jetlag. In the evening, you can walk around Thamel or nearby markets where there are plenty of shops, restaurants, bars, hotels, night clubs and a lot more to explore. Enjoy your first day in Nepal.

Day 2
Drive to Pokhara

Get yourself ready early in the morning for a scenic drive to Pokhara. Leaving Kathmandu, the switchbacking route goes through riverside of Trishuli and Marsyangdi rivers with views into hillsides and towns before arriving at Pokhara. The journey itself is the absolute best way to get to know the terrain and way of living.
Pokhara is a popular tourist hub and a gateway to the Annapurna region. This place offers stunning views of Annapurna ranges and Machhapuchhre peak, and several adventurous activities like paragliding and canoeing for travelers.

Day 3
Drive to Nayapul (1,010 m) and Trek to Tikhedhunga (1,570 m)

From Pokhara, you will be transferred to Nayapul in a private vehicle from where you’ll commence trek into the beautiful mid hills of Annapurna region. From there, the route takes in wide views of mountain valleys and farming villages along a beautiful trail that follows Bhurungdi Khola river. Continuing to hike, you’ll reach Hille from where you make a step ascent for an hour and half before you come to Tikhedhunga.

Day 4
Trek to Ghorepani (2,840 m)

Leaving Tikhedhunga, you’ll head towards higher elevation at Ghorepani, a beautiful village surrounded by the magnificent Annapurna range and Dhaulagiri range. The route involves a steep climb to Ulleri and heads up to Banthati. From here, the terrain is massively varied with scenic waterfalls en route as you hike towards Nangethati and comprises thick Rhododendron forests on the way to Ghorepani. Though the hike is a bit challenging due to steep ascent; the views of Annapurna, Machhapuchhre and Hiuchuli along the journey are truly worthwhile.

Day 5
Hike up to Poon Hill (3,210 m) and Trek to Tadapani (2,610 m)

Another beautiful day of trekking, starting with the sunrise views over the mountains from Poon Hill. You’ll wake up early by 4 am and head to the Poon Hill viewpoint that takes about an hour of steep climb above Ghorepani. On top of that, this spot offers panoramic views of Annapurna South, Annapurna l, Annapurna South, Machhapuchhre, Dhaulagiri, Lamjung Himal, Hiuchuli, Nilgiri, Tukuche and Ganesh Himal range. Watching the snow capped peaks illuminated by the first rays of sun is truly a breathtaking experience.

Next, you get to Ghorepani for breakfast, and afterwards continue your journey towards Tadapani. Eventually, you pass the villages of Deurali and then Birethanti, continue hiking along the trail through rhododendron forests and subtropical jungle covered with diverse flora and fauna. Enjoying the mountain views en route, you reach Tadapani for an overnight stay.

Day 6
Trek to Ghandruk (1,940 m)

Another beautiful day on the trails in the Annapurna region. Heading to Ghandruk, the trail slightly goes down, passes Bhaisi Kharka and Kyunri Khola, and then continues along the rhododendron forests. Continuing on, finally at Ghandruk a traditional Gurung village with its unobstructed panoramic views of the Himalayan peaks, where it looks the most spectacular. Here, you will pay a visit to local museums, taste Gurung cuisine and enjoy your evening strolling around the picturesque village.

Day 7
Trek to Nayapul (1,010 m) and Drive to Pokhara

Wake up with the rising sun over the snow capped Annapurna range. Today is our last day on the trail through green valleys and lush forests in the Annapurna region. Leaving Ghandruk, the route turns to face Modi Khola before arriving at Birethanti and then continues along the riverside trail. Finally at Nayapul, from where we drive back to Pokhara in a private vehicle. In the evening you can stroll around the bustling streets of Pokhara and lakeside enjoying the tranquil Fewa lake and surrounding landscapes.

Day 8
Drive Back to Kathmandu (1,400 m)

After having breakfast, we drive back to Kathmandu. The scenic drive follows the familiar route along the riverside highways offering an insight into beautiful terrains and towns. Enjoy your farewell dinner in the evening with your trekking crews.

Day 9
Transfer to the International Airport for Your Final Departure

The Ghorepani Poon Hill trek 9 days concludes today. Our airport representative will drop you to Tribhuvan International Airport for your final departure. We hope you enjoy hiking with us. Namaste and have a safe journey.
